Atlantic Marine Underwriters Inc. ("AMU") is a marine underwriting agency and intermediary providing a wide range of marine commercial and personal insurance products and services to Canadian business.

The principles in this Privacy Policy guide our employees in collecting, using or disclosing personal information.

Personal Information

Details that are identifiable to an individual, such as date of birth, personal address and telephone number, family status, driving record, previous insurance and claims experience, are considered 'personal information'. We collect this information because it is essential to the insurance products we provide.

Purposes for collecting Personal Information

AMU typically collects, uses and sometimes discloses personal information for the following insurance purposes: · Understanding insurance needs · Assessing insurance applications and underwriting policies · Evaluating and investigating claims · Detecting, investigating or preventing fraud · Meeting legal and regulatory requirements · Analyzing business results · Providing information about upgrades to coverage and additional products and services AMU also consults its existing files for these purposes.

Integrity of Personal Information

AMU safeguards the integrity of personal information by means appropriate to its sensitivity. Physical security is maintained over paper files and data security over digital files. Access is granted only to those who require it for authorized purposes. In addition, AMU takes reasonable steps to maintain the accuracy of all information it uses or discloses. AMU relies on its policyholders and its third party suppliers to provide all material information and to notify AMU of any changes. Consent for the Collection, Use or Disclosure of Personal Information

At AMU personal information is collected primarily through various third party suppliers such as insurance brokers, external claims adjusters and others, who have the responsibility of obtaining appropriate consent for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information.

Consent may be express and implied. Express consent is explicit, and obtained through verbal or written means. Implied consent is inferred when the purpose for which personal information is collected is obvious by the very nature of the transaction.

Consent to the use and disclosure of your personal information can be withdrawn by notice in writing to our Chief Privacy Officer. Any withdrawal of consent may result in our being unable to continue to provide insurance services to you.

Disclosing Information

AMU may disclose personal information to third parties who are necessary to assist in the provision of insurance products and services. Examples of such third parties are other insurers, reinsurers, claims adjusters, investigators and our advisors such as loss adjusters, lawyers, and accountants and others involved in the claims handling process. These organizations are limited in how they may use personal information and they are obligated to protect the privacy of what they have been entrusted with.

AMU also collects and discloses personal information about parties with respect to claims made against our insureds.

Accuracy and Access

AMU keeps personal information only as long as it remains necessary or relevant for the identified purposes or as required by law.

An individual has the right to request to access, review and if applicable correct the personal information held by us. However, the right to access is not absolute and there are certain exceptions established by law. For example if the information which is requested is subject to a legal privilege or is confidential commercial information, the request may be declined.

A request for access must be in writing and must provide satisfactory identification and proof of entitlement. A reasonable charge may be made for providing requested information.
